چکیده

In this paper Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) techniques for Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) analysis is presented. To simulate the radio channel the COST 259 directional channel model (DCM) is used for macro and microcell scenarios, as defined by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). Values of capacity and Bit Error Rate (BER) are obtained for different MIMO configurations. A capacity enhancement is achieved using MIMO with UMTS but different results for the BER metric were observed when a uniform power distribution is used through the antenna element array (AEA).

Practical Low Complexity Linear Equalization for MIMO-CDMA Systems

This article first reviews recently proposed techniques for adaptive and direct linear MIMO equalization in the context of MIMO-CDMA systems and in particular with application to a MIMO-extended UMTS-FDD downlink. The focus is thereby mainly on the complexity of the algorithms. The second part of the paper proposes frequency domain (FD) MIMO equalization using the overlap/add FFT method in conj...

Use of the 2500-2690 MHz Band for Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service

The viable deployment of both UMTS Terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN) modes, Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) and Time Division Duplex (TDD) in additional and diverse spectrum arrangement will be investigated. Simulations are performed to study the interference between UTRATDD and the UTRA-FDD having adjacent channel carriers. This expansion spectrum will be predominantly used for expandin...

Performance of MIMO-extended UMTS-FDD Downlink comparing Space-Time RAKE and Linear Equalizer

The paper discusses the performance of a MIMOextended UMTS-FDD downlink with a 2x2 and a 4x4 antenna configuration. An analytical expression for the average signal to interference ratio (SIR) of a space-time (ST) RAKE receiver in an interference dominated environment is derived. Simulations are used to assess the BER performance with the number of concurrent users as a parameter. The results ar...

An evaluation of adaptive antennas for a UMTS FDD network deployed in a suburban area of Norway

A system simulator for performance evaluation of adaptive antennas in UMTS FDD networks has been developed. The simulator is flexible, it uses realistic channel and system assumptions, and for a given scenario provides the maximum network capacity. The antenna types included in the simulator are switched lobe, phased array and adaptive array as well as conventional fixed sector antenna. Analyse...

The Network Performance of Multi-rate Fdd-mode Umts

The performance of a multi-rate mobile cellular network using the Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) mode of the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) based Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) is investigated. The new call blocking and call dropping probabilities and the tolerable network load are studied in the context of a multi-rate FDD-mode UMTS network incorporating dynamic thresh...
